Goddess Parvati obtained this name by offering food to Shiva begging Shiva. Annapurna is worshiped on the Shuklastami Tithi of the month of Chaitra. According to the Hindu belief, worship of Annapurna does not make food shortage in the house.

There is a famous Annapurna temple in Kashi; Annapurna Puja and Annakut festival are famous in this temple. There is a special practice of Annapurna Puja in West Bengal. Annapurna puja is a tantric puja like Kali and Jagadatri puja.

Raigunakar Bharat Chandra Devi wrote the Annadamangala poem describing the importance of Annapurna.
