The BARO mobile app is a dynamic, culturally sensitive, and evidence-based tool designed to provide accessible information that empowers youth to make informed decisions about their Sexual Health and Rights (SRHR).
Developed by the Somalia Midwifery Association (SOMA), the Somaliland Nursing & Midwifery Association (SLNMA), and PAM (the Puntland Association of Midwives), i the Ministries of Health in Somalia, Somaliland, and Puntland, n collaboration with the Canadian Association of Midwives (CAM) the app was created under the leadership of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and with support from the Government of Canada as part of the Strengthening Midwifery Education and Services in Somalia and Somaliland (SMEPS) project.
The app quotes and insights from both the Qur'an and Hadith, curated by a Somali Islamic scholar, ensuring it aligns with cultural and religious values. It has been fully endorsed by the Ministry of Health in Somalia, the Ministry of Health in Somaliland, and the Ministry of Health in Puntland.
