It was stated in the book Al-Azma on the authority of Ata that Surah Al-Rahman was revealed in Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq - may God be pleased with him -; Because of his fear of God - the Most High - when he remembers the horrors of the Day of Resurrection, the scale, heaven, and hell; He would have wished that he had never been created, or that he was created as a green plant that beasts eat, so the saying of the Most High was revealed:
Surah Al-Rahman came in response to the words of the polytheists, which the Noble Qur’an narrated on their tongue in His saying - the Most High: The surah came to confirm and confirm the attribute of the Most Merciful, and that it was he who taught the Messenger - may God's prayers and peace be upon him - the Noble Qur’an. Surah Al-Rahman came in response to the polytheists’ saying that the Messenger - may God’s prayers and peace be upon him - learns the Noble Qur’an from human beings, and that is in his saying - the Most High - on their tongue: (Only human beings teach it); So the Surah came to show that it was God - the Most High - who taught the Prophet - peace and blessings be upon him - the Noble Qur’an.
Surat Al-Rahman was named by this name because it was opened with the name “Al-Rahman”, and it is the only Surah in the Holy Qur’an that begins with one of the names of God, so that this name is in the first word of the Sarah, and the name of Surah Al-Rahman is the correct name for this Sarah, as stated in the prophetic hadiths The honorable and in the books of interpretation, including what Al-Qurtubi narrated on the authority of Jabir, he said: “The Messenger of God - may God’s prayers and peace be upon him - went out to his companions and recited Surah Al-Rahman.”
