The Island Power App, developed by a dedicated team on behalf of the Energy and Sustainability Centre Isle of Man (ESC), is an interactive tool designed to explore renewable energy strategies for the Island. With support from the Manx Lottery Trust, this app offers users an in-depth view of the energy landscape, where 25% of the Island’s power demand is for electricity.
Pulrose power station currently fulfills the Island’s electricity needs, consuming over 80 million m³ of natural gas each year and emitting around 230,000 tonnes of CO₂. However, this station is set for replacement by low-carbon sources by 2030—a challenge central to the app's mission. The Island Power App allows you to test storage and interconnection strategies (such as a subsea cable) to manage power surpluses and deficits as renewable energy takes center stage.
