"Geological Survey of India (GSI), Ministry of Mines, with 175 years of illustrious history in geoscience development and research in India, recognizes, declares, and maintains various sites of geological importance – known as National Geological Monuments (NGM) or Geoheritage sites/geosites/geomorphosites in India. Having the nodal responsibility for geoheritages, GSI has taken up various activities related to preservation, protection, promotion & maintenance of Geo-Heritage sites and Geo-Relics/geo-collections in the country.
The Bhuvirasat app has been developed to generate awareness, facilitate conservation measures and promote geotourism, research and development on geosites including geoheritage sites. It offers detail inventory of all Geosites/ Geoheritage sites recognized by GSI so far. It also features the newly inaugurated GSI Geoscience Museum at Gwalior.
The App broadly features Geosites, Janbhagidari/ Public participation and Geo Fun Zone. Geosites domain showcases 90 sites which are treasure trove of rich natural history, unique geology and unparalleled scenic beauty with google map locations, photographs, brief site description. Feedback form has been added to collect user opinion and suggestions about the Geosites.
Janbhagidari/ Public participation window contains proposal for submission of new Geosites across the country by general public with a provision of uploading photos, videos etc. while filling up site parameters.
Geo Fun Zone has been added to make the App more interactive and enhance user participation in the form of virtual Geotourism and Geoquiz. 3600 views of a Geosite have been integrated with the app to create an immersive VR experience that allows the user to explore the sites in stunning details. The App also features an engaging and interactive Geo-quiz section which will test the user’s knowledge of Geoheritage sites, geological processes and earth sciences and award “Geoheritage Awareness Badges” to the contestants.
