The Rusty Haggis Community Radio is a child-led, non-profit station based in Leicester. We amplify young people’s voices through radio, podcasts, and creative audio—building confidence, communication skills, and a sense of belonging. Our mentors support children to plan shows, interview guests, record in the field, and edit stories that reflect Leicester’s music, cultures, and everyday life.
What we do:
Run hands-on workshops in schools, community hubs, and youth spaces
Host child-led live shows and on-demand podcasts across arts, wellbeing, sport, and local issues
Offer pathways into presenting, production, audio editing, and storytelling
Partner with teachers, parents, and local creatives to co-make programmes the city is proud of
Our values:
Inclusive & accessible: Everyone is welcome; we lower barriers to taking part
Child-safe: Enhanced DBS-checked volunteers and clear safeguarding practices
Community-first: Local stories, local music, local impact
Creative & playful: Learning by doing—with curiosity at the mic
Get involved:
