BRAC and Concern Worldwide has been implementing “Improving Health and nutrition status of extreme poor in Bangladesh through sustainable health service provision’ project in four targeted location - Dhaka North City Corporations, Dhaka South City Corporations, and Chittagong City Corporations and in Mymensingh municipality. The overall objective of the project is to improve the health and nutrition status of the urban poor in Bangladesh through sustainable service provision, managed through a coordinated, national urban health delivery system. The project is implementing an innovative Micro health insurance scheme (MHIS) to support poor and extremely poor people in selected slums of Dhaka south city corporation. The project will work in partnership with City Corporation to ensure the sustainability of the initiatives. The project will be implemented largely by BRAC along the necessary support with Concern Worldwide. The objective of the Micro-Health Insurance Service (MHIS) is to reduce out of pocket expenditure of extreme poor through a new financing mechanism and to get access to primary, secondary and tertiary level medical treatment for their family members throughout the pilot areas. The project will intend to develop software for MHIS to implement the scheme.
