woodland caribou do not make large seasonal migrations and stay in the forest all the time, living alone or in small groups. In winter, woodland caribou feed on lichens that grow on trees and on the ground, but in summer they also feed on lichens, sedges, grasses, horsetails, non-graminoid herbaceous plants and shrub leaves.
