When preparing for the CDL Exam it is import to understand what you'll be tested on and have some insight into the mind of an examiner. However, it is important to realize that not all examiners are the same, your commercial license examiner will have the final say on your test.

Here is an explanation on how to use the app:

Pre-trip Inspection:
The vehicle Inspection must be said aloud to the examiner. Explaining how vehicle parts and systems are checked. This can be tricky because people don't always say what they think. I'd recommend choosing a video online to practice seeing the parts and become familiar with how things are said. There are many different pre-trips, so we will be adding a pre-trip study guide to the app at a later time to help you better understand what the cmv examiners are looking for.

When the applicant is taking the test the must check the parts that are on the check list. The parts will have certain criteria that must be checked for verbally in order to get credit for that part. Check back on the app later for a better explanation in the pre-trip inspection study guide.

Basic Control Skills Test (Backing):
This is the backing portion of the CDL skills test. You'll demonstrate the ability to maneuver around objects while in reverse. The amount of steering and angles needed maybe change depending on the vehicle you're in. Everything with this test is repetition, so using the CDL Companion app you can build the muscle memory required to become proficient.

Grading yourself on the backing is really just counting pull-ups, encroachments and checking final position.

Road Test:

During the road test, it is important to have someone with you. It's illegal to drive a vehicle by yourself while only on a permit. Plus you'll need someone to grade your abilities and give you feedback. Using the CDL Companion app your assistant/trainer can accurately determine if you have have what it takes to pass the CDL road test test.

The Commercial Road test is a little more fluid than the rest of the test and will require your trainer to navigate at bit more. Each part of the road test has its own section to grade. You may reference the Driver's manual to have more insight into how the road test is graded.
