The SNAP® (Stop Now And Plan) for Schools app was created for SNAP Facilitators and teachers and school boards licensed to teach the SNAP for Schools (SNAP-S) program. It is to be used alongside facilitators trained in SNAP and with the use of copyrighted printed materials and worksheets. It contains an environmental survey for teachers to complete before the program begins and 13 full sessions which cover a range of topics. Sessions include questions for facilitator-led discussions, situation scenarios, a roleplaying video example, a chance for students to roleplay difficult situations, and a cool down routine.

SNAP is an evidence-based cognitive behavioural model that provides a framework for teaching children struggling with behaviour issues, and their parents, effective emotional regulation, self-control and problem-solving skills. The primary goal of SNAP is to help children to stop and think before they act and keep them in school and out of trouble.

SNAP was developed by Child Development Institute, an accredited children’s mental health organization in Toronto, in 1985 as an intervention program for boys under 12 in conflict with the law. Since then, the program has grown and evolved into an internationally recognized model for teaching troubled children and their parents how to effectively manage their emotions and "keep problems small." Today, SNAP offers gender specific programs for children ages 6-11 and youth ages 13-17.

The SNAP program has received various awards and designations. In 2019 SNAP was given the highest effectiveness designation from the Washington State Institute of Public Policy. In 2018 SNAP received the International Society of Crime Prevention Practitioner's Community Based Program of the Year (Population over 100,000). In 2015, SNAP was awarded the Ruth Atkinson Hindmarsh Award by the Atkinson Foundation. In 2012, Child Development Institute was selected as recipient of The 2012 Prime Minister’s Volunteer Awards for Social Innovation. In 2012 SNAP received an Effective Program designation from Crime Solutions. In 2008 SNAP received an Evidence-Based designation from the National Crime Prevention Centre. In 2006 SNAP received the Exemplary Program designation from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.

SNAP for Schools (SNAP-S) is based on SNAP, CDI’s award-winning early intervention model. This well-developed program is delivered to students ages 6-11, focusing on developing SNAP skills to promote a positive change in behavior. The 13-week in-class program covers topics such as managing anger, handling group/peer pressure and dealing with bullying. The program also offers classroom interventions for all students who will benefit from the universal skills learned in the SNAP classroom sessions.
