CubiAstur is the response to a historical demand from the Asturian forestry sector.

One of the main limitations of the forest owner or manager is to accurately calculate the existing wood stock on each property. CubiAstur has been promoted and developed at the CETEMAS Foundation with various collaborations: SERPA in the development of the application and the Universities of Oviedo and Santiago de Compostela providing data in some of the cases and/or some of the models.

The application has been developed with its own financing and from the Forestry Research Program of the Government of the Principality of Asturias (General Directorate of Forest Policy of the Ministry of Agriculture and Native Resources).

The main objectives that this application aims to achieve are the following:

Homogenize the cubing system in forestry exploitation in the Principality of Asturias.
Reduce data collection time in the field. CubiAstur has functions for importing data from digital calipers, thus facilitating the use of new technologies in the field phase of forest inventory.
Make available to users, in an intuitive and simple way, the models available in Asturias or Northwest Spain.
Improve the precision in cubing and the range of application of existing models.
Make cubing easier for the small owner with personalized settings for their property.
The tool has been validated internally for the cubing of products in different species, but from the CETEMAS Foundation we want to encourage future users to propose improvements to the application by sending their suggestions to [email protected].

This application, with free access, aims to facilitate forest owners and managers in calculating stocks (timber volume) with the possibility of carrying out a classification of wood products, and for the main forest species of the Principality of Asturias.
CUBIASTUR uses, to calculate volumes, specific profile functions for Asturias or, if they do not exist, equations from the Galician community.

The specific profile functions for Asturias that it uses are those corresponding to those developed for radiata pine by the University of Oviedo and for chestnut coppice by the CETEMAS Foundation.

The rest of the models used for different species (pinaster pine, Scots pine, pseudotsuga, oak and eucalyptus) were developed by the University of Santiago de Compostela for Galicia.

As equations specific to our autonomous community are generated, they will be incorporated into the cubing program.
