Biography
Rinto Harahap (born in Sibolga, Central Tapanuli, North Sumatra, March 10, 1949 - died in Singapore, February 9, 2015 at the age of 65 years) is an Indonesian singer, songwriter and producer. In 1969 he founded the band 'The Mercys' which consisted of: Rinto Harahap himself, Erwin Harahap, Reynold Panggabean, Rizal Arsyad, and Iskandar. Then the formation changed with the entry of Charles Hutagalung to replace Iskandar, and Albert Sumlang to replace Rizal Irsyad. This group achieved success in the 1970s by releasing many songs that were hits at that time.
Besides being a composer, he also had a recording company called Lolypop in the 1970s-1980s. Many Indonesian singers are popular thanks to their songs, including Nia Daniati, Betharia Sonata, Christine Panjaitan, Iis Sugianto, Rita Butar-butar, and Eddy Silitonga.

Christine Natalina Panjaitan (born December 23, 1960) is an Indonesian singer of Batak descent. Christine Panjaitan's name soared when she sang Rinto Harahap's song "Tell Me the Truth"

An alumnus of the Faculty of Chinese Literature, University of Indonesia in 1986, he taught at Padjadjaran University in Bandung for two years. In 1998, he made a recording album entitled Aku Sayang Padamu.
