This is a mobile application that converts your normal Mobile Phone into an advanced Mechanical Vibration measuring equipment. Vibration measurement helps analyze any machinery and understand if its is operating at the right limits or if there is any signature of failure. These Vibration signatures can predict failure of machinery many hours before they actually fail – allowing for service crew to perform timely maintenance – to avoid the failures.

All Smart Phones that an Accelerometer sensor that measures the Acceleration in X, Y or Z axis. This applications measures this acceleration and shows a line chart of the acceleration over time. Using a configurable number of points (32, 64, 128) – frequency analysis is done to show a FFT chart of the signal. The FFT chart shows the frequency content distribution of the signal which helps us isolate any Mechanical issues in the Machinery.

A basic way to test this app is to place your SmartPhone on the front part of your car with Engine on. Select the Z axis and a high sampling rate around 20Hz or 50Hz. The application should show a frequency chart which identifies the vibrating frequency of your car engine – corresponding to rated RPM value. If you see presence of other frequencies – it may be an indication of some issue.
