This application is designed to assist pharmacists in the management of diarrhea cases in an optimum way. It helps pharmacists to diagnose the patient case step by step using WWHAM questions (W: Who is the patient; W: What are the symptoms; H: How long; A: Action taken; and M: Medication and medical history). The application assists pharmacist in decision making by either manage the case using over the counter (OTC) medications or refer complicated cases to the physician. For cases that can be managed using OTC medications, the application will present a list of suitable medications according to patient age, gender, medications, and medical history. The pharmacist can then choose one of the suitable medications according to the availability of the medications in his/her pharmacy and also according to the patient preference in regard to medication cost, dosing regimen, and possible side effects. After the pharmacist chooses a medication, the application will provide full information about that medication regarding its dose, dosing regimen, duration of use, and possible side effects to remind the pharmacist with the necessary information for patient education and counseling. The application was tested by a team of specialist clinical pharmacists on more than 200 diarrhea cases, and the results were 100% accurate.
