Bright Light in Navigating the Dark is a mobile application designed for helping the visually impaired to sense the world.
Computer vision is an interdisciplinary field that deals with how computers/mobile phones can be made to gain a high-level understanding from digital images. In this mobile application, assistive technology has been conceptualized for visually impaired or blind persons. It reads textual information on papers and produces an audible translation of the text using OCR (Optical Character Recognition) and TTS (Text-to-speech) system, it is also capable of classifying images like television, hand, bird, pot, tableware as well as Philippine banknotes and many more. The mobile application can be operated via voice commands and all of the features is performed on the device locally without the need of internet connection.
