The word "istighotsah" استغاثة derived from "al-ghouts" الغوث meaningful help. Arabic grammar in sentences that follow the pattern (wazan) "istaf'ala" استفعل or "istif'al" denoting request or petition. So istighotsah means asking for help. As said Ghufron غفران which means forgiveness when opted into istighfar استغفار istif'al pattern which means seeking forgiveness.

So istighotsah means "thalabul ghouts" طلب الغوث or ask for help. The scholars distinguish between istghotsah with "Istianah" استعانة, although linguistic meaning both are approximately the same. Because isti'anah also istif'al pattern of the word "al-aun" العون which means "thalabul aun" طلب العون which also means asking for help.
