In Switzerland, between 0.4 and 1% of the population suffer from cardiac arrest every year; that is up to 8000 people per year.

In addition to thoracic compression and ventilation, early defibrillation is one of the cornerstones of successful resuscitation. AED devices are lay defibrillators and can therefore not only be operated by specialists. Immediately after the occurrence of such an event, up to 80% of the affected persons could be resuscitated by immediately initiated measures.
In fact, however, only 5% of patients throughout Switzerland survived a cardiac arrest in 2005.

The geographical distribution of the population and also the location of rescue services are very different. Decisive factors for survival are the rapid alerting of professional rescue services and immediate resuscitation measures which shall be started and continued without interruption.

In order to reach people with a sudden cardiac arrest as quickly as possible, voluntary groups of First Responders were recruited and trained by First Responder foundations and/or regional rescue services, which are alerted in the event of an emergency by the emergency medical services 144.

With this application, volunteer lay helpers from all over Switzerland are alerted to an emergency within seconds if they are in the vicinity, which can massively shorten the therapy-free interval until the arrival of the rescue service.

With this application, more First Responders can be alerted, since not only cantonal First Responders are alerted on the cantonal Momentum App in their own canton, but all First Responders of participating cantons are alerted on this national Momentum App if they are close the emergency location in another canton.

Thus, cantonal and national First Responders, all together, can significantly increase the likelihood of survival in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest throughout Switzerland.
In Ticino, the probability of survival in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest rose to over 50%, one of the highest in the world.

To use this app, you must be registered as a Momentum First Responder in your canton, and your canton must participate in the national Momentum program. Your registration data on the cantonal Momentum App also apply to this national Momentum App.

The geolocation on this app complies with data protection regulations and has little effect on the battery life.
