Elephants are one of the largest and most majestic animals in the world. Large African and smaller Asian elephants alike use their unique trunks to make trumpeting and rumbling sounds. Rumbles are typically used to communicate with fellow herd members, voicing playfulness or helping the herd decide which direction to move. Louder and more aggressive trumpeting noises are used as a warning to predators or intruders on the elephants’ territory. In addition to the characteristic rumbling and trumpeting of elephants, these animals can also make other vocalizations, such as snorts, roars, barks and cries.
