The A Word for Today (UPPO) calendar, a veritable treasure trove of daily biblical meditations, was created in 1971 by Erma and Arturo Wiens, a husband and wife team. It has the distinction of being a high-end product of daily biblical and evangelical spirituality.

The calendar has two primary purposes:
1. To disseminate the Bible, making it accessible visually thanks to the verse that occupies each day's page.
2. To enable people to encounter the gospel, the good news of what God accomplished in Jesus Christ two thousand years ago and continues to accomplish today in the lives of all human beings, thanks to the short meditation on the back of each page.

UPPO is a daily journey into the great richness and beauty of the Bible, a companion that will faithfully accompany us every day of 2024.

A total of 70 authors have offered their help with short, insightful, and meaningful tweets to help us navigate the Word of God and rediscover the wonderful message of the Gospel. Inside, you'll find moments and weeks dedicated to short miniseries that present a specific topic or book of the Bible.

At the bottom of each meditation, you'll find instructions for the Bible reading plan: "The Bible in a Year." If you use the entire plan (read the four passages every day), it will allow you to read the New Testament and Psalms twice in a year and the rest of the Bible once. However, if this approach seems too challenging, you can read only the first two passages in the first year, and the third and fourth passages in the second year.

GBU Editions is a publishing house whose motto is "At the service of a faith that thinks."
They were officially founded in 1965, directed and led by Marcella Fanelli with the important support of Jean Elliot, two women... two pioneers of the faith! The need was immediately felt to complement the work within the university with editorial work, both in-house and, above all, translation.
After 15 years of relying on external collaborators, strongly encouraged by the then general secretary of "IFES" (English GBU) and other Italian brothers, Marcella Fanelli (formerly GBU national secretary since 1957) and Jean Elliott spearheaded the creation of the publishing house "Edizioni GBU," whose motto is precisely "IN THE SERVICE OF A FAITH THAT THINKS!"

For this reason, Edizioni GBU's book production focuses primarily on the translation and publication of Biblical commentaries (a selection of which you can see outside on the counter) to accompany and enrich the reading and study of the Word of God, and on texts dedicated to the connection of faith with culture, society, and major ethical questions (we have texts written by psychologists, doctors, researchers, philosophers, and Christian thinkers), including authors such as J. Stott, D. Carson, Packer, C.S. Lewis and many others.
