Palermo Tree City Map, is the first online database of the tree-lined heritage of the city of Palermo.
In this first beta version of the App, in the webgis section is contained the geospatial location of the numerous botanical, shrub and arboreal species, found along the streets of Palermo. Currently the census of the trees in the Libertà, Politeama, Malaspina - Palagonia, Montepellegrino, Arenella - Virgin Mary, Noce, Zisa, Cuba - Calatafimi, Palazzo Reale - Monte di Pietà, Tribunals - Castellamare districts has been completed. , Montegrappa - S. Rosalia, Oreto Stazione; the districts of Resuttano - San Lorenzo Colli, Mezzomonreale - Villa Tasca and Villagrazia - Falsomiele have been partially covered, in the territorial limit placed under the Viale della Regione Siciliana (excluded Favorita park).
As of March 30, 2019, more than 16,200 units have been surveyed among trees and skins and a land area of 3,728 hectares has been covered. The next census, to complete the street trees is under construction.
An important goal of this project is that it is possible to involve citizens in maintaining the public green of the city, through an interactive relationship between the green maintainer and his users. The possibility offered by Palermo Tree City Map to ensure that citizens can actively contribute to the achievement of this objective consists of some important points:
- in the photo users section there is in fact the possibility of making photographs on the particularly significant street trees of Palermo and sending them directly to the application manager who will transfer them to the appropriate photo archive section, an online image album accessible to all users.
- in the section Adopt a plant is also given the possibility for citizens to become the "guardians" of a plant chosen by them; in the botanical form associated with the chosen plant, the name of the user will be indicated in the webgis section, who will commit themselves morally from that moment to check, within the limits of their knowledge and experience, the overall health of the tree, reporting to the municipal section responsible for any anomalies found, through special functions resident within the application.
