What does AVS do?
Did you know that AVS is the only Academy and Professional Association for School Leaders in the Netherlands? There are other education unions, but they mainly focus on teachers and other educational staff. We are there for you alone. But… You are not alone at AVS.

We have approximately 3,500 members, who mainly work in primary education as (deputy) directors, location leaders, middle managers, upper school managers or administrators. Prospective school leaders, lateral entrants or directors who have retired (and want to remain involved in education!) are also very welcome at AVS.

AVS is mainly known as a trade union. But we are more than that. We support our members with practical advice for just about everything they encounter in school practice, we assist them with legal assistance from our legal department and we strive for good employment conditions plus an excellent salary. AVS helps school leaders become even better in their profession with training courses that have been specially developed for them. We already do that and we will expand on it in the coming years. Our goal is to become a center of expertise where you get help with all your questions and where you are in the right place for your personal and professional growth.

AVS is also the place where you meet your colleagues. In networks you can spar with other directors outside your own organization about important educational issues or good leadership. This way you help each other further. AVS connects and inspires, also during our study trips and the annual AVS School Leaders Conference. We represent the voice of school leaders in politics and the educational field. In short, AVS puts school leaders in position. Every day again. And preferably together with you.
