Bangladesh Forest Research Institute (BFRI)
Bangladesh Forest Research Institute (BFRI) is the only national institute for forest research in the country.
The institute was established in Chittagong in 1955 under the name of "Forest Research Laboratory" for the purpose of efficient use of forest resources and innovation of technology.
The laboratory was later transformed into a full-fledged national research institute on forest management, creating opportunities for research on forest management.
This organization has been operating under the direct control of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (now the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change) since 1985.
The institute was incorporated in 1996 under the National Agriculture Research System (NARS).
The headquarters is located in Sholashahar area of Chittagong city.
Area: 1100 hectares (head office 26 hectares and 21 field stations 1082 hectares).
BFRI consists of 11 divisions under Forest Management Wing, 08 divisions under Forest Resources Wing and 2 general services divisions, making a total of 19 divisions.
Bangladesh Forest Research Institute has been able to create a number of facilities for education, training, research and distribution or expansion of research results. All these facilities are open to all individuals and organizations.

Library:
The library of Bangladesh Forest Research Institute is a rich library on forest. It contains over 12,000 books, bulletins, and monographs. In addition, 12 local and 69 international journals / periodicals are regularly collected and exchanged from various universities or research institutes around the world.
Herbarium:
About 21,000 plant specimens have been stored in the BFRI Herbarium so far.
Gelerium:
To date, 600 local and 1900 foreign timber specimens have been collected and stored at BFRI Xelerium.
Arboretum
So far 60 native and 20 exotic tree species and 10 cane species have been preserved in the BFRI arboretum. In addition, arboretum is enriched by many medicinal species (herbs, shrubs and trees).
Collection of forest insects and fungi
Samples of 2,000 fungi and 6,000 insects have been collected at the Fungus Collection Hall and Insect Museum, respectively.
Forest Theoretical Museum
The BFRI Museum displays various uses of wood and important research works.
Bamboo setam
The BFRI campus has the only bamboo setam in the country. There are 26 species of bamboo preserved here.
