The RootsTalk family has three mobile apps — FarmPal (for farmers), FarmAssist (for agro-input dealers and rural facilitators), and FarmPundit (for agri-experts). These three apps help their users seamlessly transact with each other.

FarmPal is meant for Indian farmers seeking crop advisories and inputs. These advisories are provided by different organizations using RootsTalk, and then delivered to the farmers through FarmPal.

Major features of FarmPal
1. Selection of Organizations
Agro-input companies, other agro industries, universities, research institutes, NGOs, or farmer organisations, can use RootsTalk to create crop advisories. FarmPal lets farmers to connect with any of them and obtain their advisories.

2. Farm-specific advisories
Advisories are assigned to farmers based on the location, season, variety, soil type, nutrition status, market preference, farm infrastructure and other such parameters. It makes the advisories farm-specific. The opportunity to create farm-specific advisories rests with the organizations on RootsTalk.

3. Start date flexibility
Farmers can enter an expected crop start date and view pre-sowing advisories. The start date can be altered later to accommodate changes. Start dates can be entered retrospectively too. The advisories adjust accordingly.

4. Advisories
Advisories are dynamic and adjust with crop age, or calendar. They strictly adhere to the recommended time periods, so that farmers can view only the present, and not the past or future recommendations. Advisories can be in the form or text or multimedia, and farmers can mark the adopted advisories. Input details, like brand name, dosage, application method, are displayed only when the farmers have purchased the inputs through FarmPal.

5. Ordering inputs
Farmers can place input orders with the dealers recommended by the advising organization, or with dealers of their own interest. With the exception of seeds, orders are placed by selecting the date range for which the inputs are required, not by selecting the actual input. If required, farmers can move an order from one dealer to another. Dealers obtain farmers’ approval before packing and despatching. Inputs need to be purchased and applied within the recommended time-frame only.

6. Expert assistance
Farmers can raise queries with experts of the advising organization. Information in a query can be in the form of text and multimedia. Expert response can also be viewed in the form of text and multimedia.

7. Local language
The content can be viewed in any Indian language.
