The EU is a trailblazer in terms of Environmental Regulations and the latest Regulation (EU) 573/2024 which entered into force on 11th March 2024 is a clear statement in addressing climate change by phasing out HFCs (HydroFluoroCarbons) due to their greenhouse effect.
The so called “F-GAS” Regulation (where the letter “F” stands for “fluorinated”) poses plenty of challenges to the industries affected:
• HVAC-R
• Chemicals
• Automotive
• Aerospace
• Medical
• Food
• Solar
To add more complexity, Brexit resulted in two separate F-GAS Regulations:
• GB F-GAS Regulation, covering England, Scotland and Wales
• EU F-GAS Regulation, Covering EU27 + Northern Ireland (part of the United Kingdom)
Our App aims at providing guidelines to deal with these Regulations through simple explanations on how the two systems work. It is also possible to see current prices of the different types of Quotas we have available:
• Quota – necessary to import HFCs in bulk
• Authorizations – Necessary to import HFCs pre-charged in equipment, transferrable
• Delegations - Necessary to import HFCs pre-charged in equipment, NON-transferrable
Another useful tool on our app is the GWP converted. It is very important to understand how many tCO2eq (Tonne of CO2 equivalent, unit of measure of the Quota Systems to evaluate the environmental impact of the HFCs placed on the market) each shipment entails, so that Undertakings can make sure they have the right type of Quota on their HFC Registry accounts prior to import procedures.
