Until 1969, Tangail was a piece of Greater Mymensingh. Tangail was made a different area due to smother Mymensingh District's domain. Before segment of 6 Upazila episode Mymensingh District's financial development was higher than the capital Dhaka. To stifle Mymensingh, Greater Mymensingh was isolated from their 7 out of 6 Upazila Tangail, Sherpur, Jamalpur, Netrokona (by and by known as District) History of Mymensingh#cite note-Iffat Ara 1989-16 from Mymensingh. Also, 6 sub-region were elevated to region status to maintain a strategic distance from struggle with Dhaka.[citation needed] Thus Tangail locale was conceived. The primary streams that cross the Tangail region are the Jamuna, Dhaleshwari, Jhenai, Bangshi, Louhajang, Langulia, Elongjani, Jugni, Pouli, Fotikjani and the Turag.
