Founded on April 1, 1923, it is dean of the press in the Community of Extremadura. In 2023 it celebrates its 100th anniversary.

Leading newspaper in the city of Cáceres, it has a regional personality. Belonging to Grupo Zeta since 1988, it was acquired by Prensa Ibérica on April 18, 2019. Periódico Extremadura has been able to adapt at all times to the demands of readers, and is today a regional news benchmark both in its print edition and on the Internet. Its headquarters are located in Cáceres, on the outskirts of the mythical Paseo de Cánovas, and it has offices in Plasencia, Mérida and Badajoz.
