Huobi is a Seychelles-based cryptocurrency exchange. Originally from China, which now has offices in Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan and the United States. In August 2018, Huobi became a Hong Kong public company Huobi was established in 2013 by Leon Li as the developer. An alumnus of Tsinghua University, Li was a computer engineer at Oracle before founding Huobi.

On May 15, 2013, the Huobi Group acquired the domain huobi.com. Then, on August 1, Huobi launched a simulated trading platform, and on September 1 launched a Bitcoin trading platform.

In terms of initial funding, in November 2013, Huobi obtained investment from Dai Zhikang and Zhen Fund. That continued in 2014, when Huobi raised a US$10 million venture capital investment from Sequoia Capital. From that funding, in August 2014 Huobi acquired Bitcoin wallet provider Quick Wallet.
Following the ban on Bitcoin exchanges in 2017 by the Chinese government, Huobi stopped withdrawing Bitcoins in China. Later, Huobi China operated as a consulting and research platform
