La Nef des Fous (Das Narrenschiff) is a German work written by the Strasbourg native Sébastien Brant at the end of the 15th century.
Published during the carnival in Basel, this versified account lists various types of madness, painting the picture of the human condition, in a satirical and moralizing tone. It mixes irony and sermon, rigor and humor and is both inspired by the spirit of the Reformation and by popular literature, peddling, with its dialect proverbs.
