Prime MD Today is an acronym for PRIMary Care Evaluation of Mental Disorders. It is the first diagnostic instrument designed for use in primary care setting. It is a self-administered patient questionnaire, which diagnoses mental disorders using criteria from American Psychiatric Associations' Diagnostic and Statistical Manual III R & IV (DSM-III R & IV)
Prime MD Today is designed specifically to meet the needs of busy physicians and other healthcare professionals. It assists in screening, evaluating, and provisionally diagnosing major depression. This instrument has been field tested and validated in large primary care patient samples and the validation study has been published in JAMA, 1999;282:1737-1744
