Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a prevalent form of a chronic condition in elderly people affecting their quality of life and independence negatively.

T2DM is associated with increased blood glucose levels (BGL). Optimal T2DM care takes place in an everyday setting of the T2DM patient and not in a hospital setting. Hence, mobile health (mHealth) a subset of digital health can be harnessed to provide T2DM care in a remote setting through monitoring and coaching.

Maintaining BGL is the crux of T2DM management. Several studies show that pursuit of physical activity (PA), healthy diet, adherence to medication and insulin intake, the optimal amount of sleep, and stress management are beneficial for good T2DM care. These can be understood as lifestyle factors and hence can be controlled through the affected individual’s behaviors.
