It was revealed in Mecca and it talks about the greatness and sovereignty of Allah, the Creator of everything. The surah also warns the disbelievers and the hypocrites about the punishment of the grave and the Hellfire and encourages the believers to strive for the cause of Allah and follow His commands.

According to some sources, reciting this surah has many benefits and rewards for the believers. Some of these benefits are:

- The person who recites this surah will be immune from becoming a hypocrite. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Whoever recites surah Mursalat will be immune from becoming a hypocrite."
- The person who recites this surah will be protected from the evil of the enemies of Islam and will be granted victory over them. The surah warns the hypocrites and the disbelievers that Allah is aware of their plots and schemes and that He will punish them severely in this world and the hereafter.
- The person who recites this surah will be blessed with good and righteous friends and allies, who will support him in his faith and deeds¹². The surah also teaches the believers how to deal with the hypocrites and the disbelievers and maintain their loyalty and friendship with Allah and His Messenger (peace be upon him).
