The Site Layout app is a construction survey support tool designed for Android OS that interfaces with a total station to perform various on-site surveying and setting-out tasks. The application is built to assist with land surveying for civil engineering projects.
Core Functionality
The app's main menu provides access to a comprehensive suite of surveying functions. Users can perform initial setup, conduct topographical surveys, stake out points, lines, and arcs, and manage coordinate data.
Initial Setup & Configuration
Before beginning fieldwork, the app requires an initial setup.
TP/BP Setup: This essential first step involves configuring the instrument by establishing a Total Station (instrument point, or TP) and a backsight point (BP). The app can also automatically calculate the instrument's height.
Unknown Instrument Point (Resection): If the instrument's position is unknown, the app can calculate it by taking measurements to two or more known reference points. The app warns that poor geometry between the points may result in an inability to calculate a solution.
Settings: Users can configure various options, such as the scale factor for measurements, communication parameters (e.g., baud rate) for connecting with the total station, and guidance direction.
On-Site Surveying & Set-Out Operations
The Site Layout app offers several modes for conducting surveys and setting out construction points. Data can be automatically received from a connected total station or entered manually if no cable is connected.
Topo Survey: This function measures and records the coordinates of a new point on the site based on its horizontal angle and distance from the total station.
Stake Set-Out: A simple function to locate a predefined point. The app displays the horizontal angle and distance required to find the point from the instrument's current position.
2-Pt Line Set-Out: This feature allows users to set out points relative to a straight line defined by a start and end point. It includes:
Online Mode: Guides the user to the nearest position on the line.
Distance Mode: Locates a point at a specified distance from the start of the line.
Split/Divide Mode: Divides the line into multiple segments and guides the user to a selected division point.
3-Pt Arc Set-Out: Defines an arc using three points (start, midpoint, and end) for setting out. It includes Online, Distance, Split, and Center modes.
Edge of Circle Set-Out: This specifies a circle by its center point and radius to set out points on its circumference or at tangent points. This is useful for tasks like guiding steel pipe piles.
Offset Set-Out: Sets out points that are at an offset from a reference line or arc. This is particularly useful for tasks such as installing underground structures that require excavation.
Data Management
The app includes tools for managing project data effectively.
Coordinate Management: Users can view, edit, sort, and search a list of all coordinate points currently in use. New points can be added, and the entire list can be deleted.
CSV Load/Save: Coordinate data can be imported or exported as CSV files. This allows for easy data transfer between the app and other desktop software.
