The application is a product of a well known non-profit organization that aims at helping other people. Their website and overview is available at https://foundationsforfarming.org.
The application is a data collection application that aims at helping rural small-scale farmers maximize their resources. The mobile application allows for members of Foundations for Farming (known as Extension Officers) to go out into the fields of rural farmers. Whilst there, the extension officer can collect basic information about the farmer, such as phone number, optional photograph, and ID number. These details are only collected so as each farmer is unique (has a unique phone and ID number). The extension officers then use the devices location to map the co-ordinates of the fields and other information such as crop type.
The application has surveys that are sent to the extension officers for the farmers to carry out. The whole aim of the application is to help the small-scale farmers maximize thier yield by learning from the extension officers about what works and what does not.
Nobody is forced to be part of the process and all are aware that location services are being used for mapping co-ordinates to later view via satellite to look for trends and patterns of good and bad farming.
The application works both online and offline and is zero-rated by a well-known Technology Company in Zimbabwe (Econet - www.econet.co.zw). We need the application on play store urgently as the project is underway and we need to distribute the application.
