PipeSelector Mobile is a smartphone/tablet app that streamlines piping design and selection.
By simply entering parameters such as flow rate and pressure loss, the app instantly calculates the optimal pipe nominal diameter and also visualizes the friction loss-flow rate diagram. It can be used for a wide range of purposes, from initial on-site considerations to detailed design and presentation material creation.
By entering the water flow rate (L/min) and pipe type/nominal diameter, the app automatically calculates the flow velocity (m/s) and pressure loss (Pa/m). In addition, by setting upper limits for flow velocity and pressure loss, the app can automatically calculate and suggest the pipe size that is suitable for the conditions.
Main functions
1. Pipe type/nominal diameter selection
- In addition to common pipe types (SGP, VLP, VP, SUS-TPD, HTLP, SUS-sch10/40, STPG-sch40), HPPE is also supported.
- Comprehensive internal diameter data is recorded for each pipe type. Intuitive selection is possible using a pull-down menu.
2. Flow rate and pressure loss calculation
- Supports both Hazen–Williams and Darcy–Weisbach formulas.
- With the Hazen–Williams formula, pressure loss (Pa/m) and flow velocity (m/s) are instantly calculated from flow rate (L/min).
- Darcy–Weisbach formula can also be selected (graph is displayed only when Hazen–Williams is selected).
3. Back calculation mode
- When the upper limit of flow velocity or pressure loss is specified, the optimal nominal diameter that meets the condition is automatically recommended.
4. Friction loss-flow rate diagram
- Draws a friction loss resistance diagram using the Hazen–Williams formula.
- Points of input conditions are highlighted with a marker for instant visual confirmation.
- Supports dark/light theme detection, and automatically adjusts the color scheme to make text and lines easier to see on either device setting.
? Usage scenarios
- Tentative design in the early stages of designing building equipment
- As a manual calculation support tool when confirming the design
- On-site flow rate confirmation and pipe diameter check
Windows app version
Vector has released PipeSelector as a Windows version of this app, and Equipment Piping Design Assist as a piping resistance calculation software, so please use them together.
