In Indonesia, the art of calligraphy is generally known as Arabic calligraphy. Where Arabic script is written in such a style, so that the writing has a beauty that is artistic and pleasing to the eye. Arabic calligraphy is better known in Indonesia, compared to other calligraphy arts. One of the reasons is because the development of Arabic calligraphy has gained a position and has been brought and known during the Islamic kingdoms in Indonesia. It can be seen that calligraphy is one of the historical relics of Islamic kingdoms. In the book Calligraphy Art (1985) by Abdul Karim Husain, the word calligraphy comes from Latin which consists of kalios (calios) which means beautiful and graf (graph) which means drawing or writing. In English, the term Calligraphy is known, which is beautiful speech and the art of beautiful writing. Fine writing whose objects are Javanese, Latin, Japanese, Hindi, Chinese, Russian, and others is called calligraphy. While in the Aran language called Khat which means beautiful lines or writing.
