BMW 5 Series Wallpaper HD The BMW 5 Series is an executive class or upper middle class sedan and station wagon produced by BMW since 1972.

The body was designed by Marcello Gandini, based on the BMW Garmisch 2002ti Bertone that appeared at the 1970 Geneva Show. Gandini also designed the Fiat 132 and Alfa Romeo Alfetta, two other vehicles with a similar design.

The 5 Series has started BMW's tradition of giving names with three digit numbers. The first digit (5 in this case) represents the model/series, the next two digits (usually) represent the engine capacity in deciliters (one-tenth), which is the main differentiator. An additional alphabet/letter or a word is usually added at the end of the three-digit series to indicate the type of fuel used (gasoline or diesel), engine or transmission details, and/or body type. The letter "i" for example refers to the definition that the engine in the vehicle uses an injection fuel supply system.
