Cats have been humans’ companions for many years, even though she itself probably thinks just the opposite, being sure that a man is her companion. She can be absolutely different - they are big and small, fluffy, short-haired and hairless; with pointed and flat muzzles, calm and temperamental. Do you know how many breeds exist in the world?

English people were the first who tried to find an answer. On 13 of July 1871 there was the first worldwide exhibition. This day is counted as a Birthday of felinology – a science which studies home cats only, including all the aspects starting from anatomy and ending with behaviorism.

Still, scientists cannot come to common opinion in one question - how many cats’ breeds are there in the world? What one specialist calls a breed, the other calls subspecies. The most widely spread opinion is that there are 200 of breeds and 700 of subspecies.
