Ashabul kahfi is an exemplary story that is mentioned in the Koran in the letter al-Kahf verse 9 to verse 26 of the 110 verses. This story tells of some cave dwellers that contain i'tibar and lessons that are very useful for human life.
The story begins in a city, located between vast plains that are very fertile. Most of the livelihoods of the population of this country are farming and plantations by planting date palms, citrus fruits, grapes and watermelons. Some of the other residents raise animals such as cows, goats, sheep and camels, so that they live in prosperity, they eat their natural products with pleasure and live in peace.
The religions of these peoples and their beliefs, as well as of the inhabitants of other countries in the world, vary. Some of them believe in Allah and His Messenger, but most of them are idol worshipers, images and slaughter animal sacrifices for him.
The ruler of this fertile and prosperous country is a King who is more inclined towards idol worshiping idol religions and forces others to join in worshiping him, if they do not follow his will, the people will experience very cruel torture.
These conditions and conditions have been going on for decades under his leadership, many of the Muslims are subjected to extraordinary torture, so that not a single day when news reaches him about the whereabouts of a believer or believer, surely punishments will be enforced by torturing him or slaughtering him in public. , so that he is sure he can pull out the seeds of faith from the breasts of its inhabitants who have long believed in Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala.
With this political & social condition that really makes people who believe in Allah, there are still some people who believe in Allah SWT secretly, because they are more afraid of Allah's punishment which is more cruel on the Day of Judgment. They loudly and courageously declare an attitude to ignore their leader's orders. They are able to control themselves, because they have optimism framed by a mas'uliyah spirit (responsibility), a spirit isti'la (feeling high) and a leadership figure.
The attitude they do is to keep upholding their faith in Allah SWT and seclusion in a cave as a shelter while praying: "O our God, give us mercy from Your side and perfect for us straight guidance in our affairs" .
However, Allah's will wishes otherwise, Allah lulls them to sleep and covers their ears from all noise. Then after 309 years (Qomariyah), Allah returned to wake them up.
Finally, all the miracles opened up after they were awake, especially after one of them asked his friend to buy something to prop his empty stomach, they realized that they were in a realm that was contrary to the old reality, they were in a community where the majority of the population was religious. Islam and they believe, that they are historical actors who can increase their faith and the believers all.
Thus finally, in accordance with the promise of Allah SWT, that: "Indeed, those who believe and do good deeds, of course We will not waste the reward of those who do (his) deeds well" (al-Kahfi: 30). So that they also join to become part of a society where the majority of the population is Muslim.
