The new hymnal was created in 1996 by forming the '21st Century Hymnal Development Committee', and experts from all walks of life were mobilized for 10 years to conduct research and review. After collecting opinions through six public hearings and discussions, about 30,000 hymns were developed. Among them, 645 songs were selected and published in November 2006.
