"T1 Life" is an application that integrates a carbohydrate counting tool and uses a reinforcement learning algorithm to predict bolus insulin doses.
The app focuses on developing a technology-based solution for improving diabetes care, specifically for individuals with type 1 diabetes (T1DM). Integration of all information related bolus dose calculation, viz. carbohydrate counting, modifying insulin carbohydrate ratio and insulin sensitivity factor, to suit an individual need is still an area where technology can help to ease the burden of disease for people living with type 1 diabetes. Carbohydrate counting is crucial for managing blood glucose levels, but it poses significant challenges in daily life. To address this, this app was designed to assist with carbohydrate counting for Indian foods and automate insulin dose calculations. Apart from carbohydrate counting, calculating insulin carbohydrate ratio and then its fine tuning is a constant need in type 1 diabetes. Furthermore, reinforcement learning algorithms were automated to adjust patients' ICR values on a weekly basis, based on how their blood
glucose levels responded to insulin doses. This adaptive approach aims to improve glycemic control by continuously fine-tuning insulin requirements.
