The VOT smartphone application, AdhereTB, was developed by Top Group LLC and the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health of Georgia with financial support from the Global Fund to Fight HIV / AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria as part of the Maintaining Universal Access to Quality Treatment program and the diagnosis of all forms of tuberculosis, including drug-resistant tuberculosis ”in 2017. The adaptation of the application to the needs of Kazakhstan (Almaty) was supported by the AFEW Kazakhstan Public Fund.

 

Every year, patients with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) are admitted to the National Tuberculosis Program for treatment. Treatment, including all necessary medicines, is free for patients and paid by the state. After enrolling in the program, a very long and difficult period of treatment begins. 6 days a week, on average for 20 months, patients have to take quite a few tablets per day.

 

Due to the monitoring aspect, patients must go to TB dispensaries daily and take pills under the supervision of medical personnel (the so-called Directly Observed Treatment (DOT)), which is a very laborious and tedious procedure that patients must follow for several months.

 

This application allows the patient to take medications at any time convenient for them, register medication and send it daily to his supervisor. On the other hand, the medical staff has an administrative panel where they see all the videos of their patients, and then they can confirm or reject the medication process (based on the instructions that the patient follows for medication), so the application helps to make the treatment process easier. patient friendly and cost effective.
