Optional part Helpende-plus

With this optional part, the novice practitioner is skilled in simple caring skills that are in demand in the field of care and welfare. She can work according to protocols that play a role in, for example, collecting data by measuring the pulse and temperature, administering medication, dripping the client's eyes, ears or nose and putting on and taking off compression stockings. The novice practitioner can identify deviations from the client and deal with them adequately and act in acute situations. She knows what she is authorized to do and when to call in the expertise of other experts.

Relevance of the elective
In the field of care and welfare, the share of employees at level 2, the care and welfare assistants, is increasing. Due to the developments in healthcare, the complexity of the demand for care has increased and helping care and welfare can use something extra well. At the moment regular refresher courses and additional courses are being started for level 2 employees to achieve the 'plus' (skills based on the Vilans protocols). Employers and employees have the desire to use these components as optional components in the training courses. The opportunities on the labor market will increase for care and welfare assistants who have completed an optional part of Helpende Plus. They are more widely deployable in health care, with benefits for themselves (more opportunities on the labor market), as well as for employers (shortages can be filled more easily). It is also relevant for progression to level 3 to follow the optional part of Helpende Plus. The helping person learns a number of components that are also involved in level 3. Moreover, the student can already "smell" a level 3 and if this results in a successful experience, she will probably move on.
