Let’s face it, immunizations are a sore subject (no pun intended). Wherever you are in life, wherever you are in your vaccine awareness journey, we can all agree on one thing… Immunizations are a medical procedure and the responsibility of informed consent is on us, the patient.
Federal law requires that healthcare staff provide a Vaccine information Statement to a patient, parent, or legal representative before each dose of certain vaccines. This is a two-page printout summarizing the package insert and it is simply not enough. VISs are written to fulfill the information requirements of the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act, not as informed consent forms.
Parents should maintain the right to informed consent. My goal and mission is to help individuals realize there is more to learn about vaccines than what is typically shown.
Informed was created to be the resource available to you 24/7, on the go or at home. Instead of having to use search engines and go through layers of websites to get the information you need, the Informed app will have it for you with a few clicks.
Instead of strolling into your doctor’s appointment blindly agreeing to the vaccine manufacturers ‘Terms and Conditions’ as I like to call them, you will be ready to ask any question related to the vaccine package insert.
By reading the package insert, highlighting anything you need clarification on, making notes about the questions you have at that moment, having the discussion with your health care provider and ultimately deciding if vaccination is or isn’t for you is true informed consent.
This app is not to steer you away from vaccination. It is a precious tool expanding your knowledge on the risks associated with a very common medical occurrence and every individual is owed the chance of review.
