The Sheaf is an independent, progressive news aggregator dedicated to informing and inspiring the working class.
Much like a sheaf, a bundle of wheat stalks, this website bundles links from various media sources, creating a single space where news and analysis grounded in equity, global awareness, and justice come together.
Using a simple algorithm, The Sheaf processes media from a wide range of sources to generate a feed on the "Recommended" page, offering an alternative to mainstream corporate media. The algorithm classifies content into 20 topics based on word uniqueness and selects the most representative post for each topic. Simple and transparent, with no hidden agendas.
A year before The Sheaf was created, its prototype, Anbamap, named after one of the Arabic words for "news" ( anbāʼ ), was developed to inspire global political consciousness through a world news heatmap. Some excerpts from its about page:
Anbamap serves to make independent, anti-imperialist, left-aligned news and analysis more accessible by collecting it into one place. Anbamap aims to foster global awareness by visually representing current news with a world map.
Anbamap was made by a university student in the spring and summer of 2024. Western mainstream media’s coverage of Palestinian current events, including the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movements on my campus, is but an instance of empire managers’ systems of narrative control that operate seemingly omnipresent in the US bubble I live in. However small, I want to make a dent in this presence by making anti-establishment media more accessible, and to lessen the navel-gazing of people like me, who live in these bubbles.
The Sheaf follows in Anbamap’s footsteps in its mission, but streamlines media interaction by removing the heatmap component. More information can be found in the footer below.
