Ganjar Pranowo was born to a simple family in a village on the slopes of Mount Lawu, Karanganyar from a father named Parmudji Pramudi Wiryo and a mother named Sri Suparni. Born with the name Ganjar Sungkowo, he is the fifth child of six children.[21][22] His siblings namely Pri Kuntadi, Pri Pambudi Teguh,[23] Pri Jadi Joko Prasetyo, Prasetyowati, and Nur Hidayati. Ganjar Pranowo's father was a police officer and was assigned to an operation to crush the PRRI movement in Central Sumatra (now West Sumatra, Riau and Jambi). Giving the name "Pri" to the three brothers Ganjar because the father three times went down to the field of operations to crush the PRRI.
