Santa Claus is a character in various cultures who tells the story of someone who gives gifts to children, especially on Christmas Day.
Santa comes from a character in European folklore who comes from the figure of Nicholas of Myra, is a Greek born in Asia Minor in the third century AD in the city of Patara (Lycia et Pamphylia), a port city on the Mediterranean Sea, and lives in Myra, Lycia (now part of Demre, Turkey). He was the only child of a wealthy Christian family named Epiphanius (Ἐπιφάνιος) and Johanna (Ἰωάννα) or Theophanes (Θεοφάνης) and Nonna (Νόννα) according to other versions. Nicholas is a bishop who gives gifts to the poor.
Santa figures later became an important part of Christmas traditions in the western world and also in Latin America, Japan and other parts of East Asia.
Santa Claus Day is celebrated around the world every December 6th.
