About Insulin Easy
Insulin Easy is a tool designed to help you accurately and safely calculate the rapid-acting insulin dose you need with your meals.
We know that managing diabetes can be challenging. That's why we created this app to simplify the calculations and give you peace of mind knowing you're making informed decisions.
How does it work?
The app asks for your current blood glucose level, your target blood glucose level, and the amount of carbohydrates you plan to consume. Using this information, and considering your Insulin Sensitivity Factor (ISF) and your Insulin-to-Carbohydrate Ratio (ICR), the app suggests a dose.
We also understand that your body responds differently to insulin depending on physical activity. Therefore, you can tell the app if you've exercised and for how long, so the calculation is even more accurate.
What is IOB (Insulin On Board)?
Insulin on board, or IOB, refers to the amount of active insulin remaining in your body after an injection. Understanding your IOB is crucial to avoid overlapping doses, which could lead to hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).
How do we calculate your IOB?
To determine the amount of insulin remaining, this app uses the Walsh algorithm. This method is based on a simple and reliable model that assumes insulin is deactivated linearly over a period of 3 hours from the time of injection.
This means that if you inject a dose of insulin, the algorithm calculates how that dose gradually decreases until, after 3 hours, it is no longer considered active in your system.
Important Notice: This calculation is an estimate. Always consult with your doctor or healthcare team to make decisions about your diabetes management.
We hope this tool is very helpful in managing your health.
Thank you for using Insulin Easy!
