The New Zealand men's cricket team toured Bangladesh in September 2023 to play three One Day International (ODI) matches. The International Cricket Council (ICC) finalized the bilateral series in a press release. The matches were used to prepare both teams for the 2023 Cricket World Cup. Following the World Cup, the New Zealand team will return in November 2023 to play two Test matches. The Test series will be a part of the 2023–2025 ICC World Test Championship.

Initially, New Zealand was scheduled to play a two-day practice match in Sylhet before the test series. However, after a prolonged World Cup campaign, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) requested to cancel the practice match, to avoid the players' tiredness.

In terms of head-to-head in test matches, Bangladesh and New Zealand have faced each other in 17 matches where New Zealand dominated Bangladesh by achieving victory in 13 matches while losing only a single test. Overall, Bangladesh has appeared in 138 tests where they could win only 18 matches while losing 102. On the other hand, New Zealand has contested 464 tests where they won in112 matches and faced defeat in 182. So, it would be interesting to watch how the Bangladesh Tigers will perform in the upcoming Ban vs NZ test series 2023 and achieve their maiden test series victory against New Zealand.
