The recreational boat license valid for inland waterways enables you to operate recreational boats on federal inland waterways. This applies to drive machines over 11.03 kW (combustion engine) or 7.5 kW (electric motor) and to sports vehicles less than 20 m long.
The recreational boat license for maritime shipping routes is required to drive recreational boats with propulsion engines over 11.03 kW (combustion engine) or 7.5 kW (electric motor) on maritime shipping routes, without any length restrictions and only for private use.
There are also certificates of competency from the Sports Sea Boating License Ordinance, which are recommended but not limited to the leisure and sports sector. They are mandatory if pleasure boats are used commercially, e.g. for pleasure boat training and professional skippers for trips.
