Tulus is the youngest of three children from Bukittinggi, West Sumatra. His father worked as a contractor, while his mother sold music cassettes.

He started singing in front of the class when he was in grade 3 SD in Payakumbuh. She gains the confidence to sing after being forced by her art teacher, Nur. The teacher who realized Tulus's talent gave him the impetus to become a singer.

When he was in the second grade of junior high school, he watched Chrisye's concert in Padang accompanied by Erwin Gutawa's musical arrangements. The experience made him realize his love for music.

Growing up, Tulus became known when he often sang at community events at jazz clubs and several campuses in Bandung. During his studies, he joined the Sikuai Band.

Human is the fourth album from Tulus. This album contains 10 songs including Hati Hati Di Jalan dan Diri. This album was released on March 3, 2022
